QUOTIDIAN (Viogner) 2023

The 2023 QUOTIDIAN is our first foray into Viogner, one of my favorite white varietals.  It is 100% Viogner from the Royal Slope AVA.  It is produced and aged in stainless steel tank, providing a clean varietal nature with additional complexity.

I remember looking at a wine list at a nice restaurant on the Washington coast and wanting to try something other than Chardonnay.  So, I gave Viogner a try.  It opened a whole new world for me and I remember thinking…”what is this elixir of which I have not heard…Viogner!” (or something like that).  This Viogner has a nose of tangerine, peach, and honeysuckle.  On the palette, it has notes of tangerine, peach, and mango.  It is full, fresh, and bright whether you are a seasoned Viogner pro or a newbee.

RHATHYMIA (Roussanne) 2021

The 2021 RHATHYMIA is a crisp and bright white wine with a nice acid backbone.  Aromas of lemon, brioche, flowers such as honeysuckle and jasmine, and a hint of eucalyptus.  It has flavors of (Myer) lemon, lychee, kiwi, and tart apples.  For me, this wine is like going to downtown Seattle.  I live in the suburbs and I don't go to Seattle all very often.  When I do, I always think "this is awesome, I should do this more often."  Being a red wine guy, I don't drink whites all that often.  When I drink this one, I think "…beautiful, complex, bright, lively, and layered…I ought to drink this more often."

RISIBILITY (Rose of Mourvedre) 2022

The 2022 RISIBILITY is a beautiful salmon colored rose wine with medium body, medium acid and a nose and palate of red fruit, strawberries, fruit punch, pomegranate, and cantaloupe.  And, as always, it has a bit of the edgy, nutty, Mourvedre funk.

RISIBILITY (Rose of Mourvedre) 2023

This RISIBILITY is made the same as prior vintages, 100% Mourvedre from the Sugarloaf Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills AVA.  It was whole cluster, direct press, and vinified in stainless steel.

It is a bit more delicate and nuanced than past vintages.  You can see this straight away from how the pale pink color shimmers in the glass.  It has a delicate nose of juicy pink grapefruit and floral aromas.  It leads with notes of grapefruit, strawberry, and passion fruit on the front palette and finishes with slightly savory, herbal and fennel notes on the back palette and, maybe, just a hint of orange creamsicle.  It smells, tastes, and feels like a seaside breeze wafting over Provencal flower garden.

MELIORA (Red Blend) 2019

2019 MELIORA is a medium bodied Rhone style red blend, perfect for summer days, lighter foods, or on its own.  It has a clean nose with aromas of red fruits, black tea, minerals and wet gravel.  It has flavors of red fruits, herbs, mineral, tobacco, slate, and white pepper.  MELIORA tastes like a late afternoon in an exotic land, rejuvenating at a small café after a day of exploring hidden alleys, air heavy with the smell of summer, cooled by an occasional breeze.

UBUNTU (Grenache) 2020

A lighter bodied, dry red wine that pairs well with food (and wine).  A humdinger of a Grenache with a clean nose and aromas of graphite, black pepper, cherry, strawberry, leather, and licorice.  Flavors of raspberries and dried strawberries, grapefruit, fennel, prune, juniper, and rosemary, with wonderful "not too hard, not too soft" grenache tannins and mouthfeel..  Well balanced with up front fruit notes followed by a wash of acid for a balanced finish.  At bottling time, I was a bit flummoxed by the lighter color and considered blending with a bit of Syrah.  I am glad I chose not to because this is a very grenachy grenache and has beautiful flavors.

AMORE (GSM) 2018

A classic Rhone Style blend of GSM.  A big, dry wine with elegant, round tannins and a nice mouth feel.  Flavors of licorice, pepper, dried strawberries as well as a bit of leather.  Great with food or as a sipper all by itself.

AMORE (GSM) 2022

Laser focus and purity are Quiddity’s hallmark, and we certainly find both on this blend of 63% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, and 17% Grenache. It’s aromatically expressive, with spicy notes in the lead. Beyond that are notes of braised green pepper, blackberry, and raspberry. The palate is sumptuous and textured in feel. It shows more greenness than these varieties typically do – too much for some tastes. Still, the appeal of the palate is impossible to ignore.

AMORE (GSM) 2020

2020 AMORE is a similar to the 2018 vintage and is a Rhone style GSM blend (SMG actually) with 63% Syrah, 21% Mourvedre, and 16% Grenache.  It is another wonderful, layered Rhone blend with flavors of red and purple fruit, dried herbs, black tea, and leather.  Also has a elegant mouthfeel that is like a nice hug for your tongue.

AMORE (GSM) 2021

Sean P. Sullivan's Northwest Wine Report - This wine is 63% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, and 17% Grenache. The aromas are elusive initially. Over time, they open to reveal notes of raspberry, herb, and pepper. Plump-feeling, pleasingly pure, palate-coating red and blue fruit flavors follow. The sumptuous texture provides as much appeal as the flavors, and there is impressive detail. The flavors linger on the finish. It’s straight-up delicious and a terrific value given the level of quality. Decant.

Strikingly pale and transparent in color, the aromas are subdued, with notes of cigar box, dried tobacco, and red fruit. The palate is light-bodied and delicate. The variety seems hard to place.

NON-SEQUITUR (Cabernet) 2022

This is my first foray into Cabernet Sauvignon and it’s true to the Quiddity style, emphasizing purity and a light touch when it comes to oak influence. The aromas are expressive, with notes of plum, black raspberry, and plentiful amounts of green pepper, with the fruit front and center. Lush fruit flavors follow, with the oak pulled back. For those looking for an unadorned Cabernet that leans into this variety’s herbal side, look no further.

SAPIT (Carmenere) 2021

Sean P. Sullivan's Northwest Wine Report - Carménère remains a relatively rare varietal wine in the Pacific Northwest. This is an excellent example. The aromas lead with notes of sliced jalapeño and green pepper, black cherry, and flower – classic notes for this variety. Supple, textured, supremely pure blue and darker fruit flavors follow. It stretches out on the finish. Fans of Carménère, seek this wine out. It’s beautiful.

SAPIT (Carmenere) 2022

Varietal offerings of Carménère are relatively rare in the Columbia Valley, with this producer always offering a compelling example. The aromas bring notes of black pepper, whole green pepper, jalapeño pepper, wet stone, and cherry. Pleasingly pure fruit flavors follow, showing precision and grace. Floral notes provide accents. The finish hangs.

UBUNTU (Grenache) 2021

Another classic Quiddity grenache.  Pale garnet/tawny with slight bricking.  Dry with medium body, medium acid, and wonderfully supple tannins.  A nose of raspberry candy, wet concrete, dried strawberries, touch of leather and an essence of grilled meats.  Flavors of cherries and strawberries, crushed gravel, and hints of eucalyptus, black tea, and licorice. This wine explores grenache's prettier side and has no shortage of richness.

VERVE (Tinta Cao) 2022

This is a rare bottling of this variety from Washington. Brooding aromas of fresh herb, plum, ember, and spice lead to flavors that are broader around the edges, lighter through the middle. It’s equal parts successful and intriguing.

ZHUZH (Grenache/Syrah Blend) 2022

This wine is two-thirds Grenache and one third Syrah. The former announces itself on the aromas, with focused notes of strawberry hard candy, red cherry, and herb, with Syrah providing blue fruit accents. Plump-feeling, achingly pure red and blue fruit flavors follow. A warm finish caps it off. Dee-licious. It’s a compelling example of the joys Quiddity has to offer: small production wines that provide purity, grace, and exceptional value.
